Building a realistic exam-readiness plan

A simple, honest framework for exam preparation: baseline, target, timeline, and focusing effort where it moves the score most.

Effective exam preparation is not "more revision". It is the right revision, in the right order, with honest feedback. This framework works across IGCSE, A Level, IB, SAT, IELTS and professional exams.

Four honest steps

  1. Baseline. Find the real starting point with a past paper under near-exam conditions. Marks reveal more than feelings.
  2. Target and timeline. Set a specific target and count the genuine study weeks available, not the calendar weeks.
  3. Prioritise by impact. Spend time where marks are most winnable: weak, high-frequency topics first; strong topics maintained, not over-polished.
  4. Practise the exam, not just the content. Timing, command words and mark schemes are skills in themselves.

Warning signs to avoid

  • Anyone guaranteeing a grade, no honest educator can.
  • Re-reading notes instead of retrieval practice and past papers.
  • Ignoring the mark scheme's exact wording.
  • Cramming new content in the final week instead of consolidating.
PRISM builds a milestone plan around your target and timeline, using board-specific past papers, and gives honest feedback on progress. We prepare and coach, we never sit an exam or complete assessed work.
